If my car has a flat tire, I fix the tire. I don't buy a new car.

Would you?

The woman has assets. She should liquidate her assets, i.e. sell her home so she can have her surgery. She is not without options. This is a sob story.

So she should sell her home to pay for an operation and then be homeless or just die?
Nice.

Well, what else is the solution? Conservatives don't want a public option. And you are so totally dense if you thought I was serious. Hello? I've only been one of the most strident proponents of a safety net for people just like this woman. You confuse me with mcymatt, who would let this woman die or go homeless.

I guess you're the type of person who needs the big flashing "sarcasm" smilies. Not the brightest bulb in the chandelier, are you?

The only option, since she has had the misfortune to be Born in the U S A.
[snark]But then the health care in France is so bad they have to resort to selling big nuclear power plant equipment to us. [/snark]

Good thing you added the <snark>, lest some get confused and think you were actually serious.

Personal accounts have no effect, either. How inured do you have to be to see/read about real suffering and go, "Meh"?

Valhalla, on September 26th, 2009 at 1:58 pm Said: Obama has amply demonstrated that he really has no concern or loyalty to the Democratic Party (he could barely choke out the word during the campaigns), and he has no guiding Democratic principles (in the FDR-sense of the word). Hell, most Democratic Congresspeople also display neither. So it’s inconsequential to him whether the Dem Party suffers bc of his ‘formlessness’.

In fact, the whole health care insurance debate is a win-win for him. The worst that will happen is nothing; then his big financial backers will breathe a sigh of relief that they can continue to reap in big profits and pay themselves big bonuses. Sure they don’t get the new captured near-monopoly market they asked Santa for, but far better than accepting any restraints (even piddly ones in current proposed legislation). And, since Obama won the election off of the massive financial contributions of Wall St and insurance cos in the first place, he gets a guaranteed round of similar payback/support in 2012. So he’s not worried about his reelection.

I seem to recall Hillary getting a boatload of contributions from the health care industry, FWIW. You really think she wouldn't have been beholden to them?

I honestly don't believe anyone will really reign the insurance industry in. The president who really tries to do that is the president who ends up dead.

It's no suprise that Cantor would say something like this. He has great insurance. The insurance costs anywhere from $150 to $500 per month depending on family coverage and whether there is dental and vision coverage. Link

That's not bad for a annual salary of $174,000 plus whatever other income he receoves. I was an employee of the federal government for 14 years. We had similar insurance. It was pretty good. It became fairly expensive as healthcare orices were going up. It cost the same for everyone. It didn't matter how much money you made. I thought it was unfair at the time. People with lower paying jobs with young children couldn't afford it very well. You could change to a different coverage once per year in November. There was a lot of choice. This is something that the president is using as a model. They had to cover you and your family whether there was a prexisiting condition or not. They could not cancel you for any reason as long as you paid the premium whuich came out of your pay.

Cantor is out of touch like most people at that level. His callousness is expected.
