I am trying to email someone and keep getting this stupid error:

452 4.1.1 ... temporary failure

I can receive emails from other people and so can he, but I cannot send a new message to him or reply to an earlier message that we emailed back and forth.

I have an @comcast.net account, he does not. I sent him an email using my aol account and that one went through.

Any ideas what is going on here?

The "temporary failure" message is the biggest clue.

Comcast, as you may know, is in the process of upgrading residential accounts and individual server space allotment. Where we used to get 25 MB of space per email account, they're raising that to 1 GB per account. And in the process, they're also moving accounts, bit-by-bit, to new servers.

While they're doing this, there are going to be some service disruptions.

I've been in contact with the York call center and have taled to their engineers there to work through some problems caused by these upgrades.

If it doesn't get fixed within about 8-16 hours give them a call.

But first, try this, if you haven't already:

• Properly exit/quit all applications running on your system, then shut it down.
• Unplug the power source from your modem and any routers or wireless networking devices you may be using. Wait a minute or two.
• Restart your system. After it's completed the boot sequence...
• Restore power to your modem and any other devices.
• Start your email application and try again.

Let us know the results.

Here's what I did today:

turned home computer on, we have our comcast email go to outlook express program that came with the computer.

sent email that went through okay to a verizon address

shut down and went to work.

checked my comcast at work and got a few junk emails and tried to send to my friend. he's got a company email address. got the error message. logged out and tried a few more times throughout the day.

left work and called him, he didn't get anything from me, but did send me something.

got home and checked the email, nothing from him. tried to send from outlook, got the stupid error message. sent to another email and worked okay.

logged onto my aol account and sent and received emails from him fine.

it's a problem emailing him from my comcast account, but not my home computer.

in the subject line, the message was "returned mail - user unknown" which is baloney since I've sent and received emails from him before and I got the same error when I replied to an earlier email I had saved.
