Full Version: Where To Donate Clothes...
TalkBack > Community > Lancaster County

I'm cleaning out my closet and have decided to get rid of a lot clothes that I've been keeping around - just in case I ever thought I might wear them again. Where is the best place to donate women's work clothes? If all else fails, I'll take them to Goodwill, but I was hoping to give them to an organization that could really use them. I also have some maternity clothes - any ideas on those?

Definitely! A really good place would be the

Lancaster Pregnancy Clinic
822 Marietta Avenue
Lancaster, PA 17603
(717) 291-1800

They don't make a 'profit' off the clothes and they are definitely needed. Your maternity clothes would be great!

Milagro House is across the street on the corner of College and Chestnut St.

Your work clothes would be greatly needed there for the women who are trying to get back on their feet and starting jobs..etc.

Hope this helps.

Water Street RM has a woman's program as does Milagro House.

Milagro House specializes in helping pregnant women and teenagers. Another place for maternity clothes is COBY's.

It depends where you live. In the "Southern End" you can drop off clothing at New Hope Community Closet. Daily volunteers sort the clothing and steam clothing to be sold. NHCC sorts clothing to raise money for overhead costs for New Hope Community Life Ministry and the Community Closet....which in turn distributes profits to area needy such as for the fuel fund. New Hope CLM provides counseling on a sliding scale to area residents. New Hope Community Closet provides a truck load of clothing weekly to Salvation Army. Through use of vouchers from CAP and area Pastors, New Hope Community Closet provides needed clothing to people in need without cost. I understand there are similar thrift shops in other small towns in Lancaster County. The fact that a thrift shop sells some of the donated clothing, does not make it any less valuable. Check for a resale clothing store where the profit is used to help many people. Look for a thrift shop near you and use the convenience of location to your advantage.

Perhaps through this thread, a list of other small town thrift shops will be compiled. No need to have clutter in your home when many others can benefit from your clothing treasures. smile.gif

There is a thrift store that supports San Juan Bautista Catholic Church at 441 S. Lime Street. All profits support the church's programs. It is open for drop offs Mon. 10-3, Tuesday 6-8 p.m. Wed. 10-3 ; closed Thursday; Friday 10-3 and Sat. 10-2.

For everyone else, you can find some fantastic deals on just about everything!

P.S. The volunteer staff speaks English too.

Clair House on W. Chestnut St. can use clothing for ladies or kids, as well as toys, household items, and other things on its wish list. I think they like you to call ahead to say you are coming to bring items. Their website is informative:
