Full Version: Looking For A Schnuazer

I'm looking for a reputable mini schnuazer breeder in Lancaster County. Finding a reputable breeder in this area is very hard. I don't want to buy from someone that breeds mulitiple breeds of dogs. I want to buy from someone that raises them for the love of the breed. I have already looked into rescue groups, but most of those dogs are for homes without other pets and children.

Please don't suggest I go to the humane league. I have allergies and cannot have a dog that sheds. Besides, I am determined to have a schnauzer.

Please let me know if you know anyone. Thanks.

P.S. The breeder doesn't actually have to be in Lancaster. I'm willing to travel.

Well, I'm going to say it anyway - please please please get a dog from a shelter. Every dog you buy from a breeder just means one more that will get nuked at the shelter. And you're supporting breeders - does the world really need more dogs?
There are plenty of other breeds that don't shed, including mixed. If you're patient, one will eventually show up at a rescue...and if they're that ill-suited for kids and families, maybe that's signal that you should consider another kind of dog.

That's odd because I just went to this website, among others, and found many dogs that are good with kids.

I would recommend you visit the American Miniature Schnauzer Club to look for a breeder referral. You should find someone through this site that is a member of the club, and breeds for the love and betterment of the breed. Breeders such as this usually have a lifetime guarantee for the dog, and do certified testing on the parents before breeding, and will be very picky about who they sell a puppy to. Most of them show their dogs and don't breed just to make a buck, and are willing to take the dog back for any reason no matter when if there is ever a time that you can't care for the dog any more.

Good luck. Let us know if you find someone.

I seriously do not understand how someone, in good conscience, can either buy - or condone buying - a dog from a breeder when in possession of the knowledge that they are being euthanized by the millions just because there aren't enough homes.

Horns, you should look at the dogs in Melody's link. There's an adorable 4-year old male named Albert in Laurel, MD who is good with kids over 5, neutered, microchipped, and housetrained. biggrin.gif
