Hammer
The last few days this site has been so slow.I have cable and it has taken over 30 seconds for a new page to load.Doesn`t sound like much if your still using dial-up but it`s way slow for cable.Any one else notice it? It`s just this site for me.

It's not you Hammer, the site is running like a slug. Best as I can tell from firefox reports of what's loading on the page, the problem is all the off-site crap LNP pulls in from elsewhere, in particular the google adsense and the google analytics bot.

Talkback is actually the fastest area of the site at the moment. When I go to pull up a news page I now go get a fresh cup of coffee while it loads. And I have 320/320 DSL.

how do you get those stats and information about the loading speed?

I can only talk about firefox on mac osx, but as a page loads the status bar at the bottom of the browser displays the name of each item on a page as it is loaded. Normally on well-constructed page that loads normally it will flash by too quickly to really see, but when a loading page hits sludge you will see stuff like "waiting for max.lancasteronline.com..." or "loading adsense.google.com/djhfeiejmdm..."

You can also go on your firefox menu bar to "tools > Error console" and you will get a list of any errors that occurred when a page loaded, such as:

On this reply page alone there were like 25 errors, half related to google and the rest stemming from LOL's junky style sheets.

Every time the browser hits a command, reference or declaration in the page source that it can't resolve it slows the page load. In the case of LOL it happens 20-50 times on any given page.

It's running really slow for me as well. High speed DSL connnection seems as slow as my old dial-up...except for the header and all the ads...funny how that seems to load quickly. rolleyes.gif

Not that it would do any good to complain, LNP is too busy building a convention center to run a newspaper and website!

Ebay is probably overloaded as well...I hear Mr. Goodbar cups are all the rage with high schoolers now. tongue.gif

Ironically, I spotted a bunch of pirate hats at the Bollman Hat Factory store this weekend. They also have tricorn hats, in case anyone's into that. laugh.gif
