Full Version: Rio Gets The Olympics

Seriously, he spent all that money on trips to Copenhagen. Michelle and Oprah went on one plane and Obama himself on another plane. Plus they fly along other planes to track airspace along with the planes. All together, it's at least four planes flying to Copenhagen, Denmark. The price of which is utterly mindboggling in a President who was supposed to be in favor of green jobs (so much for that czar).

Plus, think of all the time he wasted trying to get Chicago to host the 2016 Olympics.

Obama is just not a good President and this is a PR disaster.
clanker
What's the big deal? He was doing something as opposed to flying back and forth to Crawford TX to clear brush for weeks at a time.
beaker2011
What's the big deal? How about 10%+ unemployment for adult men nationwide?

And how is trying to get the olympics (thus construction jobs for same) in the US a bad thing?

So an attempt to get the Olympics in and American city and jobs for American workers was wrong? Maybe he should have stayed in DC and hired you to manure the new vegetable garden.
beaker2011
The problem isn't just in Chicago. It's nationwide! What is Obama's plan? When will unemployment start going down? From what Obama has said, unemployment wasn't supposed to be over 8% if the stimulus passed and the rate is supposed to be going down at this point.

However, it's still going up, up, up, just like it has been since Democrats won a majority in Congress and were sworn in on 1-20-07. We are down about 8-9 million jobs now!

But only temporary ones. Nothing permanent. And the rate continues to go up, up, up while Obama flies multiple jumbo jets to Copenhagen on taxpayers' expense. Not a good plan, if you ask me.

You don't know that some couldn't have turned into permanent work. And I'm sure for unemployed workers, something would have been better than nothing.

Stay bitter, though. I'm sure you'd have b*tched if he hadn't gone and we hadn't gotten the Olympics. ("Why didn't the president go to Copenhagen and state our case for having the Olympics in Chicago? If only...blah, blah; wash, rinse, repeat.")
beaker2011
"Bitter" for wanting to stay fiscally conservative?

Ok there, sherlock!
clanker
Okay, so high unemployment: bad. Trying for the olympics and people getting jobs building it: also bad. It's like applying for a job, only it's for other people to work and improve some infrastructure at the same time. Bad idea? Instead, let's all drive to Washington on federally funded highways and complain about the Gov'ment.
oh geez
so is calling someone "tea bag" because they disagree with spending funny? deep? I guess it's 'racist' if you outright disagree with the prez, and 'tea bag' if you're a fiscal conservative.
won't even bother trying to figure out the other words of wisdom some use to describe those they disagree with.
amazing.

So if I don't like the POTUS then I'm a racist? Is that what you are saying in a nutshell so indirectly? It couldn't have anything to do with the fact that I just don't think that he was the most qualified candidate even if he was yellow or purple or green, right? Well, since you don't know me at all then you wouldn't know that most of my friends are black and Puerto Rican-not white. They, however, work hard and don't act like thugs and just act like decent normal human beings. There are some white people that act like I just described and I don't like them either. It's a mentality that I don't like-NOT A RACE!!!!

You don't understand the problem and want a political solution.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/33166991/ns/business-careers/

Yes, 7.6 million jobs since December 2007. The expected losses were miscalculated. The top 1% of households have 20% of all income. They are currently in a saving cycle, not a spending cycle. Businesses have excess capacity and are waiting for more consumer demand before they hire.

As the article shows, there is also a labor mismatch: the auto industry and financial sector jobs are not coming back.

The 5+ million jobs Republicans said would be created with all the Bush tax cuts did not materialize either, so I guess more tax cuts are not the answer.

The real answer is time; it's a cycle.

for conservatives that's simple...

if the economy picks up and america pulls out of the worst recession in a generation...

a black president would get some of the credit...

Lets all ignore the fact that the unemployment figures are the result of eight years of republican mismanagement and blame the Democrats.

That is correct. At least not without corresponding spending cuts. Balance the budget and watch our economy fly. Anything else is garbage.

What exactly trickle's down? Wages stagnated for all but the upper income levels. The Bush tax cuts failed to generate the promised 5+ million additional jobs.

The people with the most extra money to spend right now are not buying stuff or building stuff. The other 99% of the households with 80% of the income are simply keeping us and the service industries afloat. Many in these lower income levels are also just staying afloat. Others are experiencing foreclosures and/or bankruptcies.

Until the incomes of the lower income levels start to outpace expenses (like health insurance) there will be little growth in demand and, therefore, little job creation in most industries.

If health insurance is not reformed this year, the problem will get much worse.

Demspeak - Don't like Obama's policies? well you are just ah ah a racist! And if you white male and mid aged? well you have always been a racist and always will be. And there is no way you could possibly accept a black President.

Let's face it the whole trip to sell the olympics was a huge embarassment on the international scene and Obama's Cred is dropping fast.
It's hard to believe no one on his team ( the brilliant Rahm) saw this humilitating defeat (that being Chicago was eliminated first, FIRST!) coming and that they allowed him to go.

Other reports indicate that both Barack and Michelle's speeches were about themselves...not about the games or the country.
Guess a whole bunch did not buy it.
Too bad for the windy city, next time send Michael Jordan and Mike Ditka

no silly...

The poverty rate climbed to 13.2 percent from 12.5 percent, and the number of people classified as poor jumped by 2.6 million to 39.8 million, according to a Census Bureau report released today.

The median household income fell 3.6 percent to $50,303, snapping three years of increases.

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=206...id=aDIvtqxX.pxY

so after 8-years of bush...

the median income is lower than when he came in..

and the poverty rate is higher than when he came in...
