Hm. It’s one thing to not run in 2010, setting yourself up for a presidential run instead. It’s another thing to quit before your current term is up. Maybe another shoe yet to drop? Leaving office before her first term is completed will NOT help her chances to win national elections. Mrs. Palin hasn't held a high-profile elected office long enough to establish either the track record or the credibility needed to hold on to a spot on the national stage. This unanticipated announcement certainly does raise the suspicion that "maybe another shoe is yet to drop", as Gil mentioned. I hope for her sake - and the sake of her family - that she's not resigning so suddenly in an attempt to avoid the public exposure of some kind of unpleasantness. |

I believe Palin is resigning to run for the 2012 nomination rather than try to run a campaign and a state at the same time.
Admirable on her part but in the end fool hardy. |

(IMG:http://talkback.lancasteronline.com/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) That strategy worked just fine for Pres. Teleprompter..... Perhaps because Alaska is in the top three states facing a crumbling state government and massive deficits (worse than California) maybe Sarah Palin is distancing herself from that mess when 2012 rolls around. We hear a lot about California ... Alaska is in even worse shape.
3. Alaska Highest Estimate FY 2010 Gap: $1.350 billion Percent of General Fund: 30% Highest Estimate FY 2009 Gap: $1.520 billion* Percent of General Fund: 21.0% 2007 Total Tax Revenue: $12.477 billion Debt at end of FY 2007: $6.533 billion *Current FY 2009 estimates are off the highs and predict a $746 million budget gap. Edited to add: President Teleprompter, eh? President Backpack Wireless Ear Piece led the way... This post has been edited by harv1: Jul 3 2009, 05:24 PM |

Mrs Palin is gonna trip over her own dick? Those should be some interesting pictures It's really Todd's, but she only lets him borrow it occasionally. ETA: Somebody is no doubt furiously Photoshopping as we speak. This post has been edited by runutz: Jul 3 2009, 05:44 PM |

I don't think it's admirable, I think it shows her as a quitter. Elected officials ask for our vote with the assumption that, if elected, they will serve a full term barring any health issues of course. We don't elect them just to quit so that they can move on to higher offices. |

She's quitting because, in her own words, she "refuses to be a lame-duck governor"? Well, okey-dokey. When the going gets tough...
I never much cared for her, but this really is the very definition of "lame." You don't just quit because you don't feel like finishing. This seems like yet another stunt to get the spotlight, again. |

To paraphrase Richard Nixon, you won't have Sarah Palin to kick around anymore. (Of course, I expect her to stay to that as much as the later President Nixon did. The difference? Palin doesn't have a chance.)
