Some out-of-towners are coming for a visit and I thought we'd try a different ice cream place every evening.
I have a few places in mind, but I'd like to collect some more.
So -- who makes the best ice cream in the county?

The strawberry at Boehringer's is awesome -- and their prices are very reasonable.

Jim Macks in Wrightsville.

There really is no need to continue this thread any further. (IMG:http://talkback.lancasteronline.com/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

Brewster's on Manheim Pike. Go on a rainy day (which we seem to have alot of lately) and you get the second scoop free.

Another vote for Jim Mack's Ice Cream. We travel for an hour to go there at least twice during the Summer months [but they are open all year].

Jim Mack's Ice Cream is located between Wrightsville and Hellam, PA on PA route 462, in York County. There are no preservatives in the Ice Cream. There is NONE better unless you make it yourself.

Edit: Look at this !!! http://www.captainbin.com/family/icecream.html

It's not in Lancaster County, but your friends would love a trip up to the Jigger Shoppe in Mt. Gretna....

Lapp Valley Farm in New Holland.

Fresh made on the farm with milk and cream from Jersey cows that have higher fat and calcium.

Lapp Valley Farms
244 Mentzer Road
New Holland

Arrive at 4pm and you can watch them milk the cows. I think they are the only homemade ice cream shoppe in the county that uses Jersey milk (smaller brown cows) which is the richest milk with the highest percentage of butterfat and protein. Once you taste Jersey milk you won't want to go back to factory milk.

If your guests are also into cheeses I highly recommend September farms.

First, The Creamery

Second, Greco’s in Lititz

Third, The Jigger Shop. More for the atmosphere than the ice cream.

Brewsters is okay. Colmans Ice Cream Shop on 340 has unique flavors. I would not recommend Scoops in Mountville. Went last saturday night to play mini golf and get ice cream. The golf course was awful. Not enough lighting to even see the holes. The manager or owner of the ice cream shop was very rude and the sundaes had very little ice cream to them.

I would also agree, it may not be in the same county but depending on where you are, its might be closer than some other places. Been going there since i was a little kid. Nothing like going to the next county to get some ice cream. :-) Ice cream sodas are the best.

Ok, so I'm going to have to try this place out. What would be considered a must-have for a first time visitor? For both food and ice-cream?

Later...Shawn

Teaberry ice cream. Lard chips and/or whoopie pies.
I won't subject my friends to shoo-fly pie or scrapple (at least not on the first visit) but grilled stickies -- yes!
