New "star Trek" Movie: Did You Like It?

I normally do not watch movies. However, being a Star Trek fan for well over 40 years, I had to go see it.
I would rate it 9 out of 10.
Pro: good script, good acting, great sets, great special effects.
Con: it stretches believability to near the breaking point.
I would call the move an assault on the senses. It is much more like the better "Star Wars" movies than any previous Star Trek.

This movie has lots of nice touches. My favorite line: "Dammit, Jim".
Leonard Nimoy had a much bigger part than I had imagined.
It was funny to see young Spock with his hand on Uhura's butt on the transporter pad.
They even put the TV series theme in the end credits; they made it sound really good.

I enjoyed it, but I think they took some liberties with the storyline that I'm not so sure I like. I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet, but the changes they made to the timeline...meh...I dunno.
One other issue I had with the film was that I was half expecting Spock to cut off the top of Kirk's head and steal his abilities...
Kinda like when Enterprise first aired and I expected Cpt. Archer to wake up in someone else's body every episode...Oh boy...

Leonard Nimoy was on "Late Night" with David letterman on Thursday night. Letterman got corrected x 2 by Nimoy for pronouncing trek as "TRACK!" I guess IT IS a no, no in Spock's world to mispronounce trek! lol

i saw shatner on tv one time exasperated that some dumb show from the 60's achieved cult status.
to me kirk was some fascist going to the other end of the universe and then demanding answers from the beings that lived there.
kirk: "state your business in this galaxy."
alien: "umm we live here while you live millions of light years away."
kirk: "show me your papers or i'll torture you."
alien: you're an american ain't? "

This movie IS NOT YOUR FATHER'S STAR TREK.
Believe me, this movie completely reinvents Star Trek. It focuses much more on individuals, their personal struggles, and their relationships with each other, than anything else.

You need a poll button for 'didn't see it'
or for me, 'haven't been to the movies since 1993' !!!
or for me, 'haven't been to the movies since 1993' !!!
But if you would go to see it later, and you had already voted "didn't see it", you would not be able to vote again.
I see at least one person didn't like it. Either that, or else they didn't see it and are only trying to cause trouble.

This thread has had over 400 views, but only two other people actually saw the Star Trek movie? Penn Cinema was sold out for many of the showings Friday evening, and Manor Regal is also showing it.
