Well, at least those losing their jobs at the local Hospitals can look for work there!

Yeah, if they don't mind part-time or on-call work

Pretty much what a lot of them are now doing. When it hits Hospitals, it is bad.
Sorry, not trying to hijack the thread. Yeah, most of the Convention jobs will not be much better than Mickey D's

The Marriott hotel is a project of Penn Square Partners, a limited partnership consisting of Penn Square General Corp., a High Industries affiliate, and Penn Square Ltd. LLC, an affiliate of Lancaster Newspapers Inc., publisher of the Sunday News, Lancaster New Era and Intelligencer Journal.
The building in which the hotel is located is being built and will be owned by the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Lancaster. All of the loans used to construct the hotel building and half of the "shared space" are guaranteed by the taxpayers of Lancaster City.
This building will pay no real estate taxes whatsoever for at least 20 years. In other words, everyone who owns property in Lancaster is helping to subsidize these jobs.

I have a relative who (by their own choice) works in this kind of business. It appears that people who work at this kind of job in Lancaster County have been hurting because of the noticeable drop in the number of events over the last several months. I expect that these sessions will be mobbed.
There were identical articles published in both the Intell and New Era earlier this week. I know from my relative that none of this would be necessary to staff the hotel and convention center, a simple classified ad would produce far more applicants than necessary.
I wonder if this is nothing more than a publicity stunt: that this push is really nothing more than yet another attempt to quiet the many people who have legitimate concerns about the hotel and convention center project.
How quickly they forget: In 2001, Sen. Gib Armstrong bragged about the "three to four hundred meaningful jobs" that would be created by the hotel and convention center. You can watch it here:
