I absolutley agree, Gil. We should think of it as HARVESTING ENERGY that's already out there. Most places can harvest wind or sun energy...and use that or boost the grid when they aren't using...Then the need for capital outlays for mega transmission cables and corridors..(and future maintenenace of same) would be greatly reduced...additionally we would all reduce our own energy bills over the long term. The trouble is coming up wth the installation costs...a gov't tax break/write off could quickly help some...and a loan program to be paid off of the difference between your old energy bill and your new/reduced bill over time (I understand the payback can be 10 - 20 years)..would allow such a system to come on line in pretty quick order...but I would expect GREAT resistance from corporate energy companies...as it would seriously hit their future bottom line...BUT energy delivery is basically a monopoly function using subsidized ROW anyway...so gov't regulation/interference makes sense in this market...
