NewsLanc.com is challenging LNP to conduct a poll of Lancaster City residents regarding the proposed trolley car installation in the city.

On one minute radio spots on three local stations, NewsLanc.com challenges the Lancaster Newspapers to split the cost of a professional poll to determine whether residents of Lancaster City want trolley cars on their main streets.

The challenge can be heard as part of the third of three radio spots dated July 14th and posted in the right hand column of this web page.

NewsLanc would be willing to pay for the entire poll but, as was the case with the PKF Convention Center Project Feasibilty Study, the newspapers would probably arbitrarily not accept the findings as valid. And they certainly are not going, on their own, to sponsor and report about a legitimate poll that likely would demonstrate public apathy towards the project.

A trolley line that connects the train station to the convention center sounds like somebody's basement hobby setup made full scale. If the line connected population centers with places those residents wanted to go, it might be worth considering. But just those 2 miles? Shuttle buses will do at a fraction of the cost and none of the disruption to downtown traffic.



You want to play with trains? Get yourself an HO kit. Leave City taxpayers out of it.

Streetcars are a charming idea; however, I think it's premature to invest in the idea at this point. I would rather see the convention center prove itself viable for a year or two before such investment is made. Like Greidel pointed out, shuttle buses could handle the commute in the interim.

The poll should say " Are you willing to have your taxes go up for street cars in Lancaster".

Why would anyone think it is a good idea to add an additional type of vehicle (slow moving no less), to already insufficiently paved, narrow streets? Almost as brilliant as doing away with weekly street-cleaning to save money

Very interesting that there are roughly 1/3 voters that are in favor of this. In this thread and the other one started today, I have not seen any posts in favor of the streetcars.
