| Don't kidnap animals from the wild By AD CRABLE, Outdoor Trails 2008-04-23 07:02:00 Lancaster New Era The weather is nice. People wander outdoors. It's great to be outside — unless, too many times, you're a baby rabbit, skunk, squirrel, groundhog, fawn deer, birds or any number of common wildlife. |

I am the volunteer Wildlife Specialist for ORCA. ORCA is able and available to take calls at 717-397-8922 regarding any animal situation, whether it pertains to wildlife or to domesticated animals. The ORCA hotline operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Through my association with ORCA and my subpermittee status with a fully permitted and currently active wildlife rehabilitator in Harrisburg, I am able to get help for wild animals in need. ORCA cannot directly handle skunks, groundhogs, bats, foxes, raccoons, coyotes or deer - and you should never touch these particular animals - but I can provide you with a referral for those animals listed.
In many cases, ORCA is going to be the local responder, the first responder. Our goal is to let no animal in need suffer or wait for help any longer than necessary. Our emergency services are free but we will always gratefully accept donations of funds, goods or transportation. If you encounter a wild animal that you believe is in need of help, please call the ORCA hotline at 717-397-8922 and I will return your call quickly to provide assistance. Please do NOT touch, handle, remove or feed the animal until we have a chance to speak.
