| Attn. President Bush: the system works By LEONARD PITTS JR., Miami Herald columnist 2007-08-26 00:01:00 Sunday News Real men don't go to court. For years, that was pretty much the White House stand with regard to Jose Padilla, the American citizen arrested in 2002 for allegedly conspiring to set off a radiological device, a so-called "dirty bomb," on U.S. soil. It was a serious charge, and it cried out for courtroom resolution. |

History will be a harsh judge of Bush and his flying monkeys but it will be a harsher judge of the print and broadcast media and the spineless Democrats who did nothing to oppose the excesses.
The big joke here is that Bushco said they needed rendition and torture to get to the truth because to do as former president Bill Clinton's DOJ did after the first WTC tower bombing would expose national security assets. This from the criminal administration that exposed a covert CIA operative and wrecked her operation that was working to determine Iran's nuclear capability.

I have lied, I have begged, and I have cheated
And I know my ship won't be coming in
But as I lay me down to take my rest
I see that it's just dust in the wind

Politics in this country is a mess on both sides, and it is all about money. Look at what your boy Rendell did for healthcare in this state. He pandered to healthcare companies that donated big $ to his election. That will hurt who, the little guy, not the wealthy who can afford good healthcare. Another politician giving to the rich. It's the same on both sides. Don't pretend like it's not.

JUST before Congress adjourned for its August recess, Democrats engaged in a flurry of legislative activity, while Republicans complained about a “do-nothing” Congress’s meager policy accomplishments. Deep partisan differences, narrow majorities and a Republican in the White House have frustrated Democratic ambitions and fueled a toxic atmosphere in both chambers of Congress. The public’s low approval ratings reflect broad discontent with the direction of the country but also displeasure with Congress for failing to reverse course on Iraq and for continuing the bitter partisan warfare. ...
Still, the Democratic Congress’s legislative harvest this year has been bountiful compared with that of its Republican counterpart in 1995. Back then, the Republicans’ Contract With America was stymied by opposition from the Senate and the president. The new Congress has enacted a far-reaching lobbying and ethics reform bill, an increase in the minimum wage, recommendations of the 9/11 Commission, foreign investment rules and a competitiveness package, and has embedded a number of major initiatives and new priorities in continuing and supplemental spending bills. Democrats also made headway on energy, children’s health insurance, college student loans, Head Start, drug safety and a farm bill — though much of this awaits action in the Senate or in conference and faces a possible veto.

The politics of the last decade are based solely on hate. The discussion is almost never about issues any more; ATTACK, ATTACK, ATTACK is ALWAYS brought into ANY discussion about ANY issues.
We The People have been misled into making hatred and distrust the way of the land. Instead of Republicans and Democrats arguing about what is best for America, instead they find ways to attack each other.
The numerous posts on this board which consist of attack after attack after attack are living proof as to just how badly some of us have been deceived.
The ONLY way this country will move forward is to put our hatred aside, and find common ground to work together. Not whether the Republicans or Democrats will remain in charge, but how we can work together to resolve our issues.
Otherwise, we are all screwed.

If history is to be a harsh judge, she will judge not only those mentioned in your post but also the majority of the American people for not rising up to take their country away from the usurpers. She will judge - and condemn - the "keyboard warrior" society more content to seek their solace - and direction - from the MoveOn, et al gatekeepers of the left and the FoxNews gatekeepers of the right. A people and country who have given up their mind to the open market of consumerism, false creature comforts and the Idolization of delusion, jingoism and "hooray for me and s____ you" style of history and civics.
In a country where it is more important to be the "bully on the block" rather than the "peacekeeper on the block," you gets what you deserves. In a country that values an Abrams Tank over a childs education, you reap what you sow.
So, blaming solely the media, or whatever "spineless" politicians you want to throw out into the mix is a bit disingenuous and perpetuates the assumption that the American people need a newscaster/celebrity to tell them what is up and what is down.
"You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows." Or, perhaps what is even more appropriate: "...it just might be a lunatic you're looking for."

The print and broadcast media has come down on the side of the republican party since the 1992 election of former president Clinton. There are several websites that cronicle the media's bias, the one that has done the best job is Bob Somerby's www.dailyhowler.com ,he has been there from the beginning.
Were it not for the netroots getting the message out the 2006 election would have seen the republicans holding on to their majority in both houses.
The American public cannot be held responsible if they are fed lies and disinformation by a media intent on serving their corporate masters. It's only because Iraq has gotten so bad and the criminally poor response to Katrina that the likes of Anderson Cooper, Wolf Blitzer, and George Stephanopolis cannot cover for Bush anymore.
