And I've lost enthusiasm for thinking that we can get anything more than the most meager of rewrites.
Which is every bit as true for local issues as well as national and international.
"But you must remember, my fellow-citizens, that eternal vigilance by the people is the price of liberty, and that you must pay the price if you wish to secure the blessing."

Gil-
MLK said "Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable... Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals."
There are strong forces pushing back against progress. We may not have the ability to fight them directly, but please continue to speak of the battle, to educate and enlighten. Please continue to investigate how this world works and to share what you have learned.
The ignorant choose the easy answer, or play "follow the leader", or become cynics. These options don't bring us closer to the goal of justice.
It may be that the only answer right now is to keep asking questions.

when half of the american people are either too lazy or too stupid and justplain too irresponsible to vote, it becomes easy for people like karl rove to manipulate the electoral map to give us a dunce like george jr as president of the united states with the ensuing problems.
rove isn't a genius. it doesn't take a genius to figure out how to play to 26% of americans.it takes a cynic.
and even then he still couldn't win honestly.

Gil,
As a father you can not afford to give up. Read that quote from MLK and reflect on it. Your children's inner world will not be protected from the public world we are allowing to happen. It is something of a Brave New World.
