Prosecutor: Amish man lost thousands in sex scam
CHARDON, Ohio (AP) — A 75-year-old Amish widower, afraid his church community would find out about him seeking sex from a prostitute, was scammed out of more than $67,000 from the prostitute and her boyfriend, a prosecutor says.
Jake Byler of Burton Township gave the pair the money because they had convinced him that photos of Byler and the prostitute would appear on the Internet, county prosecutor David Joyce said.
They must be progressive Aim-ish 'cause they own computers!

Blackmailing an amish person is about the meanest thing anyone could think of.

Isn`t it better for the old man,if he still wants sex,to pay someone to take care of his needs? Why is this still criminal? If it weren`t,none of this would have happened.
And Melody,
No one I know from the county puts the Amish on a pedestal.Their just regular people like us.......

Nothing said about a computer, they met through the newspaper! Jake probably doesn't even know what the "internet" is!

I am curious though why you would say blackmailing an "amish person" is the meanest thing anyone could think of. Why not say blackmailing a "person" or blackmailing an "elderly person"?

I was actually being a bit sarcastic. Having been raised in "amish country" with amish relatives, i see the quaint, cute side that every tourist sees but i also am aware of the dark side of it all. I basically just said that about them because in reality they are human just like everyone. sometimes we as society put them into a special box thinking that they never do anything wrong. And as much as i would like that to be true it really isnt. Yes the screw up, much like any of us. Blackmailing is rather rude no matter the victem. Alles klar?

Larger point is that Christians are at root just as easily tempted as anyone else to human behavior.
God is not interested in punishment; the gift of Grace is free to everyone that wants it! God wants RECONCILIATION not PUNISHMENT... in the same way that a loving parent wants the best for their children.
Among the blessings to the saved are the following, free/no charge:
GRACE & MERCY and the power of the Holy Spirit working in and through them... FORGIVENESS... CLEANSING... for the purpose of fully actualizing one's role in the world and to advance the Church.
Not a bad deal.
-- Albert Schweitzer
