QUOTE
Police responded to a medical emergency at Ephrata Avenue and 2nd Street, near Ephrata Community Hospital, at 2:40 p.m.
She was taken to Lancaster General Hospital, police said. She was still unconcious today.

Why would she be taken to Lancaster General?

I heard this on the news last night. A little later was the story about the Philadelphia marathon, and a light bulb went on:

What if this woman jogger was entered in the race but decided to stay somewhere outside of Phila. the night before. Maybe about an hour away ... Maybe in a town near the turnpike ... Maybe get in a run ...

Hmm... this woman sounds pretty generic for a runner. I know when I run, I don't carry my ID and my clothes are less than specific (usually grey T-shirt, grey shorts w/ blue stripe, Adidas shoes, white socks).
Maybe a photo would be helpful? I know it's this new fangled technology, but most people recognize others by their face.

The staying outside of town for a marathon seems like a very plausible explanation. Good one, never would have thought of it.

I have been an EMS provider in Northern Lancaster county for about 10 yrs. The reason the women was taken to LGH was because Ephrata not only does not want this kind of patient they are unable to handle this kind of patient. This could have been classified as a trama and would have to be taken to LGH or Reading these are the closest Trama Centers. I personally would not take anybody to ECH if I didn't have to. The level of care in the ER is pathic. You wheel a patient in and they look at you and say what are you doing here. ECH Er is some of the worst care in the county. Medics are rude doctors act as if patient care is the last thing on there mind. ECH needs a full attidude adjustment. I hope the new LGH comes to EPHRATA

Wrong:
Its the way the call would have been classified. It was probably listed as a Trauma

Firstoff, there is nothing in this article that states it was a trauma call. They may have taken the patient to ECH since it was so close to stabilize. However, depending on the problem, LGH would be the best option for care. Its not always an insurance thing. Some hospitals cannot handle all the problems facing patients. As for ECH care, I've been there several times in the ER and have had care that was sufficient. As with any healthcare anywhere, you have to stay on top of them. There have been issues at LGH that I've heard of as well. I am also in EMS and would pick ECH over some of the others in the area. Anyway, I think they should put up a skectch of this woman to find her family. This may help. Lots of people may know people by face and not by name. I think the whole marathon thing is a little out there, but it could be possible. Anything is possible. I just hope they find this lady's family, thats what the focus should be on.

I agree! I would never go back there unless I was unconscious and couldn't tell them where I prefer.

I really hope this lady wakes up and is okay and her family is found!

On News Eight At Eleven, they described her, both Saturday and Sunday nights, as wearing black stretch pants and a blue baseball cap.

My conclusion was that she must have escaped from a locked ward; nobody in their right mind would be jogging topless in this cold weather.

One of the managers here chose Ephrata over Lancaster and Chester County Hospitals for a back surgery. He researched, and that is where he chose to go. It was actually further away, as he lives in Chester County.

Having worked in LGH's ER, I know that's gotta be the case. It would have been called in as a trauma alert since the patient was unconscious and they would have deferred the ambulance to LGH. Seeing as they didn't even have an ID, I doubt it had anything to do with insurance. Although, insurance does play a role in which hospital a patient would be taken to, which seems ridiculous in an emergency situation.

But this is not talking about surgery centers, which all of the hospitals have. It's a matter of which do and do not have trauma centers, and different levels of trauma centers.

No proof of insurance = no insurance.

I guess there are alot of possible scenarios, but you would think that she lives with someone, regardless of whether they watch local news or read the local papers. It's sad knowing someone has been unconscious for days without any family knowing or calling authorities.
