Bypass is awesome, they did a good job. Should help with traffic in Strasburg.

That's great. I'm sure someone will manage to install a shopping center and screw it all up by next summer.

I recall talk of building a Hampton Inn & Suites in that area. Did anything ever come of that?

There's an article in the southern-end edition of today's paper about a Strasburg Borough meeting in which it was mentioned that the potential developer doesn't want to pay the water hook-up fees the Boro Authority is asking for the Hampton. So I guess it's still a possibility but isn't looking that good at this point.

If there is one thing that will endure, it's the undying optomism of Lancaster County

I love the bypass, but the 25 mph speed limit is RIDICULOUS!!! Its a open, wide road with turn lanes where needed. The traffic going end to end should be permitted to go at least 35 mph, if not 40.

Nice job, PennDOT! (IMG:http://talkback.lancasteronline.com/style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)

25 mph? Wow. Well, at least you're moving.

Actually, this is pretty common, I've seen it happen time and time again, when a new traffic route that's not a freeway opens, some one puts a shopping center along the route.
I only recall one in the area that went the other way around. 222 @ 724 in Shillington. You used to go North of Adamstown, it would open up to highway speeds and then as you hit 724, you saw KMart and a bunch of businesses. That's now been elevated and bypassed to a real freeway.
I wish they would do the same thing around the outlets and past the OTW/Manchester Mall in York.

That's already a done deal. That is why that road off shoots to the left into a corn field across from the pharmacy. Yup, there's going to be a strip mall in there along with the proposed Hampton. A few months ago someone told me what all was supposed to go in there but I can't remember what all it was supposed to be now. I think a grocery store, Chinese restaurant, some sort of shops, etc. Personally I don't think Strasburg needs that - well they could use a Chinese place - as for the road, I'm happy it's finally open so that I don't have to go several miles out of the way just to get to the pharmacy! I won't be using the road though, I'll continue to avoid the square in Strasburg they way I always have by way of Herr Rd to Paradise Ln to 741. Eagle, did you look at the picture real good? They have that speed posted because of the scooters and horse and buggies. Their just looking out for the ppl that will eventually tear up the road with potholes and whatnot. I mean, after all they pay taxes too right?

So opening new businesses and creating jobs is a screw up?

I can't find it online but today's paper also had an article about Strasburg raising taxes and water/sewer again too.

I know. Hooray. The water/sewer is already insanely expensive, and it's supposed to go up by almost 50%. (IMG:http://talkback.lancasteronline.com/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

This bypass will be a great benefit to those of us who live in or have to drive through Strasburg. Especially during tourist season, you'd have to wait on N Decatur Street or E Main Street through several light cycles before making it to the intersection. This is much more than a scooter path, trust me.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't they'll build a Hampton Inn without at least one restaurant within convenient walking distance.

Somehow I don't think the residents of the over-55 community through which everyone had to pass during the construction detour to get to the post office and pharmacy are sad to see the new road open...

I wish they could have taken this bypass one step further, making a loop around the back of the RR museum, so that they could close down the section of Rt. 741 b/t the RR museum and the Strasburg RR. Would be nice to have those two together without the state highway b/t them.
