November 8,2009.

Let me begin by thanking everyone on behalf of my family who has shown their support for us through their actions and words. This is a case where two families have been irreparably torn apart through the actions of an individual who,up until the time of this incident, showed no signs of what was to come.My daughter has always been a very intelligent, caring and responsible person, contrary to the opinion of one individual,as shown in their earlier posting. Her actions that lead to her becoming pregnant are neither the business nor concerns of anyone other than herself, her mother and I.I will take responsibility for that in that I should have paid closer attention to the relationship between my daughter and her boyfriend.I had,and continue to have, major medical health related issues that affect my attention at times, but that is still no excuse and ,again,I take full responsibility. This tragedy has also taken away the childhood and innocence of my son,as he has personally taken on the roll of "guardian" of Bradley.Although he is only 10 years old, this young man has changed diapers and given Bradley his bottle, and no one has EVER had to ask him to do either. He has done those things on his own.It is not uncommon for me to walk into our living room to find my son with Bradley on his lap, both of them sound asleep or watching TV.He even plays his video games while Bradley sits either on his lap or beside him,and both can be heard laughing hysterically. As for my wife, she has been nothing short of amazing when it comes to the daily care of Bradley. She is the one who takes him to his doctor appointments, and she is the one who is here in our home with Bradley when his speech and physical therapists visit each week,as well as when Children and Youth counselors come for progress report visits. She even had to give up her job as a teachers aide here in the Columbia school district, which she loved and held for 10+ years,to do all of these things, that our daughter may stay in school and get her diploma. On that point, let me add that Ashley chose to enter Lancaster County Career and Technology school, formerly known as Vo-Tech,to pursue a career in health care, all related to her having to care for her son.She too is amazing at her young age with all her knowledge and understanding of medical terminology as it relates to her sons care, and her ability and knowledge in the administration and formulation of the various medications that are needed for Bradley several times a day.Now let me address the comments made by another individual in an earlier posting that "IIRC, when this happened the mother's family was on TB defending the abuser. I wonder how they feel now knowing that he "moved on with his life" and knocked up another girl." "I" was the one defending him on TB.NOT the "family".And I did so due to the fact that at that time,NO ONE,includind law enforcement, knew exactly what had happened. We were under the guise that the baby had been dropped onto the hard wood floors in my daughters bedroom. Please, whoever you are,and anyone else who may have defamatory or derrogative comments toward my family and I,I ask that you refrain from doing so,as I have attorneys in Philadelphia monitoring this forum due to the violent actions against me,and the actions and statements against my wife and children when the original forum was posted last year.I will also be contacting law enforcement officials on Monday,November 9 and asking that they too keep an eye on this forum.I am not in any way looking to have anyone prosecuted or bring legal action against them. However,if it means protecting my family,so be it.
Again, thank you to all those involved, and may God bless you.

Sincerely,
Michael A. Melbert.

Thank you for posting that letter. Hopefully, it will stop the hatred and nosiness and assumptions of so many posters on here about events that they don't know anything about and just want to pretend like they are on Jerry Springer.

Keeping you and your family in prayers.
