Well known fact that Vegans are all nutters brought on by a lack of red meat in their diets.

We are beautifully and wonderfully made. Each person is unique. Arguing about one's diet is futile. I have tried cutting back on red meat. I know my limits. My body prefers red meat. I have no problems looking at animals who are the source of my wellness. I say my prayers of thanks not only for the "hands which provided" my food, but also my humility for the animals provided for health and well being. It was interesting to read what a nutritionist said about a vegan/vegetarian diet and chemotherapy. That information will be filed away in the event needed.

In addition to arguing our own views on this bulletin board, there is real learning that can occur. (IMG:http://talkback.lancasteronline.com/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

So you know the difference between a vegan and a vegetarian, yet you are using statistics from a study of "vegetarians" in a discussion about vegans. Look at the quote you provided about 7th Day Adventist vegetarians.

Again, I'm not disagreeing that a vegan can get enough protein from plants, but don't use data or studies about a larger group, that being vegetarians, not necessarily vegans. All vegans are vegetarians, not all vegetarians are vegans.

I get that. But if you read the link and got to the "dairy" recommendations, you will find the words "or milk substitute". I am not an SDA. But my original toe in the waters of vegetarian was with a bunch of SDAs. They give health seminars, cooking classes, etc. Kept up the connection when we moved to Lanc. Cty in the 80s through a little church in Hershey. And I have never personally known an SDA who was not a vegan. And Agatha Thrash, MD (also SDA) and others at Loma Linda and Weimar Institute teach vegan for cancer and degenerative disease prevention.

Look. In the interest of full disclosure, I have to admit to having grave concerns about the use of prophylactic use of antibiotics and the use of growth hormones in the meat and milk industry, and now even in farmed fish. There is some evidence it contributes to antibiotic resistant bacteria, and hormone use in order to breed big breasted birds and to promote rapid bulk up of feedlot cattle and pigs gives me great pause when I personally observe the rise in cancers.

I am not a vegan because of animal rights/ethics issues. I am strictly a healthy self-interest vegan. (IMG:http://talkback.lancasteronline.com/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Trust me, I know the difference. I am vegan. There are lactos and ovos and lacto/ovos, and I have even heard the term "pescatarian" meaning they don't eat dairy or eggs but do eat fish.

And it isn't difficult at all to get all the protein one needs from plant sources! But for young people, they do have to learn some basic nutrition science in order to be healthy.

Having said that, the unhealthiest people in the U.S. are meat eaters and junkfood eaters who aren't just as careful to eat all the fruits and veggies the human body requires.

Nice to see an issue that Ceejay and I agree about. (IMG:http://talkback.lancasteronline.com/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I'm not vegan but am vegetarian and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

Instead of making all the predictable, boring jokes the meateaters should give it a try for one short month before passing judgment. It's one of those issues that you can do your own investigation on while saving money. I promise whether you stay vegan or vegatarian, you will come away from the experience with a new perspective.

These are concerns of mine, also. I wondered if someone would [mention] it.

100-year–old Ruth Frith, who set her age group's shot put world record, said her advice to people who want to live a long life is, "I just think each year is another year. You just enjoy each day, and let the years go by." She adds, "Don't eat vegetables, because I never eat vegetables. I never have."

I'm still looking for articles about 100-year-old vegans. (IMG:http://talkback.lancasteronline.com/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
