Let's see the receipts. This has insurance fraud written all over it.

Oh, I forgot 'bout the $100,000 coin collection, $50,000 grand piano, $30,000 Hummel collection and $20,000 Waterford Crystal. Add dat to the list of wat was taken. (IMG:http://talkback.lancasteronline.com/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) hahahehehaha

Does anyone know what kind of apartments these are? Ordinary or upscale? I know there are some nice places on Chestnut Street, but is this one of those?

A $5,000 watch in an apartment? Maybe I'm wrong, but if you have $5k to put into a watch, most people wouldn't be living in an apartment.

A 5k watch or a 5k television really makes no difference. There are a lot of apartments in the city with 5k or more televisions. Some people would rather spend that kind of money on entertainment instead of saving for a down payment on a house. To each his own I guess?

No, we're too busy beating the victim for having things. (IMG:http://talkback.lancasteronline.com/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

I know any number of people who have sold their homes, invested the proceeds and choose to live in a nice apartment. I considered doing the same thing and let someone else have the joy of upkeep and taxes.

I considered that too, but I like having my privacy too much. I don't want the neighbors complaining because the sex is too loud. (Relax, rednecks, I'm only making a funny. Oh, you know who you are.... you started getting your pants all in a bunch there for a minute, didn't you ?) Anyhoo, I save money living in my own house, so I can buy all kinds of cool things that somebody can eventually steal from me.

You are wrong.

$15,000 for stereo in car, $5,000 for watch (bling-bling) isn't out of the norm.

maybe the watch and tv were a gift from someone?
when i lived on west orange about a decade ago, i had a very expensive tv and dvd player.
they were loaned to me from a friend who wasn't using them, and knew i wanted to be able to watch movies.
and i wasn't living in a huge apartment, just a huge room in an old house with a mini fridge and a microwave.

Or could the watch have been inherited? I know people who aren't of great means and don't live in fancy places who do have items of great value that have been passed down to them. Maybe this isn't the case in this particular crime, but there's no sense jumping to the conclusion that the person's come by these items by playing the system or being dumb with money or whatever.

Come on now, didn't you know people who live in the City aren't supposed to own anything of value. Hell if they can afford anything of value they are on welfare, selling drugs, or stole it. Otherwise they'd live in the County.
