Now if you can only find them... I called two dozen suppliers of seafood in Lancaster County last month looking for fresh sardines.
In a couple cases, I nearly got laughed at and asked what I wanted them for.
The people that DID help me out in my quest? Ardmore Seafood at the Ardmore Farmer's Market (in my opinion the best farmer's market of it's size that I have ever seen!!!)
A guy there asked me how much and when I wanted to pick them up. I could even pay for them ahead of time.
The neat thing? I could get there by Amtrak and back faster than by car!
Oh yeah. There is a Trader Joe's next door too!!

I'm not against eating stuff with a head - provided it's dead, but these never appealed to me.
My late grandmother's next door neighbors on the other hand, they loved these things. They came home with what probably could have filled two or three five gallon buckets full of them, then spent the afternoon cleaning them.
Which didn't seem all that bad, time consuming, but not as bad as mackerel or any other fish I've dealt with. Problem was, in the rather balmy weather, it didn't take long for the whole street to know something was fishy.

Some people have a widow's peak, I have a widow's canyon.
