Lancaster city voters by a narrow margin Tuesday returned Democrat Rick Gray to City Hall for four more years and voted to retain an all-Democratic City Council.

It was the second consecutive sweep by city Democrats in a mayoral election.

Gray, who is completing his first four-year term, defeated former Republican Mayor Charlie Smithgall with 52 percent of the vote.

The results, with all precincts reporting, are:

Rick Gray — 3787

Matt Holden was courteous enough to stop by Rick Gray's campaign headquarters and personally congratulate Gray and the four Democratic City Council candidates on their victories. But by the time the party broke up, Smithgall hadn't even called Rick Gray.

Lancaster City, and county for that matter, are a pathetic joke. A shyster lawyer vs. a senile pharmacist. Is that the best you can do? No wonder if God was gonna give PA an enema, the nozzle would fit in Lancaster.

Wow.. You actually think that a mayoral race makes that much difference in your life. Heck only 7 thousand people even voted. Oh well.

Did you watch Gray's interviews later last night? As arrogant as he acted, I don't think he deserved the courtesy of a call or handshake from Charlie. Personally(and it's my opinion of course), I think Gray was angry that the election was as close as it was. I think he took it as a slap in the face?

Were you surprised that it was fairly close? I know I was surprised it was as close as it was! I honestly thought that Gray would run away with it.

I already did,I successfully escaped from the religious hypocrisy,19th century mentality, and inbreeding that seems to affect just about every resident in that joke of a county AND city. And not one time,on my way out of that !profanity!hole, did I look even once in my rearview mirror. The whole damn place festers with Amish and Mennonite inbreeeding with a dash of useless Puerto Rican thrown in. but thanks to the net,I'm enjoying watching the whole dump implode, from your crooked country commissioners,to that center city boondoggle hotel and convention center all of you fine residents are on the hook for. I laugh everytime I read about another Lancaster factory closing down, and the fact that your mayor used to make money defending the same people who are committing crime and trashing your city. What a joke. LMFAO.

At least he didn't call the Amish and Mennonites "Pilgrims". (IMG:http://talkback.lancasteronline.com/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

I've heard them called that before and couldn't help to chuckle a bit.

Harry Sachz, professional internet troll. I live in Lancaster County, not the city and was not born or raised here but i will say that life has been pretty good to me and my family. This place isnt perfect, but after living in Connecticut, upstate NY, NYC and spending significant amounts of time in other areas up and down the east coast I have yet to find one place that is perfect.
